Post Graduate Diploma in Management - Rural Management (PGDMRM)

With pressing demand from all the stakeholders, the institute started the Two year AICTE approval Post Graduate Diploma in Management-Rural Management programme from 2018 onward. Currently the second batch is in progress.

Objectives

On completion of the Programme, the students will have developed:

  • Expertise in planning and management of ruraldevelopment programmes with focus on participatory development and innovation
  • Competence in revamping the development deliverysystems for improved delivery of services
  • Sensitivity to the issues of equity and gender
  • Appreciation of the rights and entitlements of the rural poorand the socially disadvantaged groups
  • Right attitudes and values necessary for rural developmentprofessionals
  • Positive thinking and leadership qualities
  • An understanding of the processes of skill building,productivity, quality and value addition
  • An ability to build rural organisations and develop human resources amongst the rural poor
  • Heightened interest in inter-sectorial coordination and collaboration, and forge public-public and public-private partnerships and networks
  • Skill sets to better implement Rural Development Programmes of Government, NGOs and the CSR initiatives

Programme Design

The PGDM-RM design rests on the tripod of (i) Rural Development Philosophy, Concepts, Principles, Policies, Programmes and Organisations (ii) Rural Development Management Practices, and (iii) Rural Social Sector. The programme consists of three major components, namely, (a) Classroom teaching and interactive learning (b) Fieldwork (short visits and long visit) and (c) Field Attachment (Rural Organisational Internship). The first component envisages exposure to attitudes, skills and knowledge relevant to the rural society, rural development philosophy and concepts, and rural development management theories and practices. The second one primarily revolves around understanding the rural society, its people, dynamics of interaction, institutions, relationships and livelihoods by way of intensive fieldwork. The last component seeks to equip the students with skills of managing organisations/enterprises through organisational internship for 'hands-on learning and applications'.

Programme Duration

PGDM-RM - June 2020 to May 2022 (Two years)

Programme Framework

The first year of the progremme is spread over three trimesters that include classroom teaching component, as well as long and short field visits and organisational internship. The progremme consists of 18 credit courses and two non-credit courses per trimester adding up to 72 credits. The courses and the related field and project work cover the essentials of rural society, economics, people and organisations; good governance; human resource development; rural development management principles and practices; project planning and management; management accounting and financial management; IT and ICT; agro-processing and small and medium rural enterprises; rural organisations; rural credit; micro - finance; livelihoods; rural product marketing; infrastructure; social sector services; development communication; skill development among others as listed trimester-wise. Based on the programme design and its objectives, the following courses, as shown in the next page, seek to fulfil the objective of the classroom component that is presented in three parts. Field visits and Field Attachment / Organisational Internship (8 weeks) are interspersed with the classroom component. Other associated academic activities equaling ten weeks duration at different time points include short field visits, seminars, workshops, fortnightly forum presentations, special lectures, thematic assignments, quizzes and examinations. Special lectures, exposure visits, panel discussions, games and case studies comprise the pedagogy and learning methodology. Student seminars, theme-specific assignments and project work are expected to further aid the process of self and interactive learning, both in and outside the classroom.

The second year of the programme consisting of 54 credits will run through three trimesters with advanced and integrated courses which include - project management for transformation; data analysis for development; managing collectives and commons and managing development organisations along with communication and advocacy. There would be three specilisation streams vis., rural development governance, entrepreneurship and marketing and livelihood and well-being. There would be extensive field visits and project work in the second year of the programme.

Field Work (Six Weeks)

After completion of the first trimester the students shall be sent to villages in groups for six weeks to give them the basic understanding about the field level realities. On returning from the field work, the students shall have to submit a detailed field work report and make class room presentation on the experience.

ORGANISATIONAL INTERNSHIP (8 weeks):

  • The students are sent to short and long field visits for field work and field attachment (Rural organisational Internship) of six weeks at the end of the second trimester in small groups
  • This component carries a weightage of 2.0 credits
  • The short field visits of 2-5 days duration are arranged across the courses throughout the programme.
  • The short and long field visits of two- three days spread over all the three trimesters provide the students with core development and management insights while imparting analytical skill for planning and managing rural development programmes.

Evaluation of the Students

The NIRD&PR follows the Ten Point Grade Point system in evaluating the students.

Eligibility

For PGDM-RM – Batch 3
  • Minimum 50% marks (45% marks for SC / ST and PWD candidates) or equivalent in Graduation.
  • Selection will be based on valid Score in CAT / XAT / MAT / ATMA / CMAT and GMAT for 2019 admissions.
  • Students who are in the final year and expect to complete all the requirements before 15th June, 2020, may also apply.

Reservation

Reservations for the students of the SC/ST/OBC (Non-creamy layer), Persons with Disability (PWD) and EWS will be made as per the Government of India norms.

Selection Process

  • Eligible Candidates need to apply through online only.
  • Shortlisted Candidates will be called for Group Discussion and Personal Interview during May 2020 for PGDM-RM.

Scholarships

  • Few meritorious students will be eligible for NIRDPR’s Scholarship based on their performance in trimester examinations.
  • The North Eastern Council, Shillong, can be approached for securing fellowships to economically backward students of North Eastern states.

How to Apply?

  • Applications are to be submitted online only at http://www.admissions.nirdpr.org.in, Downloaded application shall not the accepted.
  • Before applying the candidates must have the following in hand: A valid Registration/Application Number of any one of the Management Admissions Tests (CAT/XAT/MAT/ATMA/CMAT/GMAT) for PGDM-RM & PGDRDM Programme.
  • Valid and active personal Email-Id.
  • Valid Mobile Number for verification and future correspondence.
  • Application fee of Rs.400/- for Open and OBC, and Rs.200/- for SC/ST/PWD candidates are to be paid through online payment gateway during the filling up of application form.
  • Last date for online submission is 10-04-2020. Applications received after the last date shall not be accepted.
  • NIRDPR reserves the right to make changes to the Diploma Programme, its design / content and the process of selection, depending upon the exigencies without assigning any reasons whatsoever.

Course fee

Rs.1,80,000/- per annum (excluding boarding and lodging)

Board and Lodging: The board and lodging expenses will be Rs.1,00,000 per annum. Accommodation will be given to the students in the NIRD&PR Hostel.

Caution Deposit

A refundable Caution Deposit of Rs.10,000 is to be paid along with the First Trimester Fee.

Seat Registration Fee

Upon selection, a non-refundable Seat Registration Fee of Rs. 20,000 should be paid by the students. This amount will be adjusted against the First Trimester Fee.

Other expenses

Students should bear the cost of purchase of books, stationery, toiletries etc.

Placement Support

NIRD&PR will endeavour to make placements on successful completion of the PGDM(RM), but does not guarantee. However, all the eligible and interested students of the previous batches of the PGDM(RM) were placed with State and Central government agencies, public sector banks, CSR Organisations and non-governmental organizations.

Facilities

The Institute has its own Health Centre with resident Doctors and auxiliary services. It has a modern sports complex with recreational facilities such as gymnasium, tennis, badminton, table-tennis, swimming pool, cricket and other games. Yoga and meditation is taught on all working days of the week. Internet and Intranet (LAN) facilities are available in student room/computer room in the hostel.
